We may be getting closer. I certainly hope so :)

This is the problem - it's binding to the OSS USB audio driver rather
than snd-usb-audio.

Add usb_midi and audio to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.

Lee

I added the following lines to /etc/hotplug/blacklist:

usb_midi
audio

But, it appears that this file is being auto-generated on boot??? If I list it after a reboot it has deleted the line 'audio'. To check I put in a empty comment after the audio line and the comment remains, but the 'audio' line is gone.

But, I'm not even sure if hotplug is working/enabled on this system. I think it is using udev ... and as someone else said, black magic.

bob$ cat /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug
/sbin/udevsend

So, I'm wondering if the 'fix' needs to be done in one of the udev rule files???

BTW, the USB UNO MIDI is still not working on boot :)

Thanks, everyone, for the help and thoughts on this. Hopefully the correct incantation is just around the corner :)
