-- Problem Description:

I'd like to play some DVD's but get either no sound (AC3) or sound with
"jumps" (DTS)

-- Environment:
- Hardware:
Soundcard: Hercules Digifire 7.1 (cs46xx)
Amplifier: Yamaha DSP A1
Connection: Via optical cable

- Software:
GNU/Linux 2.4.26
ALSA 1.0.4
mplayer and xine are fairly recent

-- Problems:
No AC3/DD sound: I have never been under any circumstances been able to
play AC3/DD sound... best is getting an ugly "sound" that worst case
blows my sound system....

DTS sound with jumps: DTS works almost fine, there are 2 issues:
First: every ~5 seconds the sound jumps - I see on the receiver during
the "jump" the display jump from "DTS dts" to "DTS pcm" and back, as
soon as the display jumps back the sound continues... whole process just
takes some ms..
Second: Once I'm done playing dts, the stream doesn't get resetted, so
any subsequential audio is assumed to be dts, so no more stereo sound
until I switch input to another audio source and back on the amp.

all the problems happen whether the sound get's played from harddisk or
dvd / xine or mplayer - so I have to assume that it's some driver/amp
issue.

-- References:
I saw someone called Dominique having a similar problem with a different
soundcard but same amp regarding the dts/ac3 problem.

I read that the jumps might be caused by some dma or irq problems

IRQ: 20: 506704 IO-APIC-level CS46XX

DMA: /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/generic:
     UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 *udma2

The harddiscs are a RAID5 configuration on an ISP-Vortex SATA
controller, which gets accessed as a scsi device, so hdparm does not
work there.

Philipp
