I've run into the same thing with Gentoo, but even (possibly) a bit more difficult. Gentoo upgraded Alsa in this kernel to 1.0.0rc2 and now the Alsa.org patches don't work at all. I wish the Gentoo emerge for Alsa was smart enough to handle placing the newest releases in the right place for 2.6 kernels, but they don't, so many of us are stuck.
It would be great if someone someday could provide a script that would take
a CVS download directory and place all the pieces in the right location
under /usr/src/linux. That way we would be able to do something with an Alsa
developers says 'Try this patch please'. As it is now we can do nothing I
think.
Try the frontpage of the alsa wiki. It has a link on how to incorporate the latest cvs or bundle into your kernel.
Basically just download the whole lot (forget about the patches, its far more difficult), then copy the directories over the top of the ones in your kernel tree (you need to do two copies.)
Piece of cake (although agreed it would be nice if it had a script in it the way the DVB guys have done...)
