The surround?? devices are for playing back surround sound *sources* to the correct speaker outputs, they are not magic devices for doing Dolby ProLogic and similar stereo to surround conversion. If you just want sound in all speakers (sometimes called "5-channel stereo" in multichannel recievers) you can use the route plugin (search the mailing list or wiki for examples), but this is *not* surround sound and, depending on speaker setup and positioning, may sound significantly worse than a plain stereo setup. -- Ronny V.
