I own a Terratec EWX 24/96 card, which uses the ice1712 driver. While most things work fine, there still is the problem (at some stage one of the devs, don't remember who, said it was due to the card being "IRQ-hungry", whatever _that_ is supposed to mean) of dropouts. This is on a Athlon XP 1700+ with 512 megs of RAM ... All I need to do to get xmms to skip playback or ecasound skip while recording is switch to another virtual desktop in kde, most of all if that one contains Mozilla or MozillaFirebird. This is quite unacceptable, but alas, I don't have the money to buy another card with the same capabilities and less problems. > 2. What does ALSA NOT do that you wish it would? can't think of anything right now .. A better documentation for .asoundrc would be really nice, not in the "what do I need to write to achieve X" sense, that is, partially, present, but in the "what the hell does it all mean" sense. There is some help around, but frankly I often don't understand the help. Like, e.g. in the WiKi article for the dmix plugin, there are various things labeled "this must be unique", or "this must be a power of 2" and so forth. uh well, fine. but WHAT DOES IT MEAN? I mean, what is "period size"? or "ipc_key"? What happens if I change it to _another_ power of 2? > 3. Have you been able to find solutions to those problems? Nope, I am not a programmer. -- Michael Hellwig aka The Eye olymp.idle.at admin check out http://homepage.uibk.ac.at/~csaa5128 for gpg public key and don't hesitate to look at http://laerm.or.at ------------------------------------------------------- The SF.Net email is sponsored by EclipseCon 2004 Premiere Conference on Open Tools Development and Integration See the breadth of Eclipse activity.
