Actually, my HDSP 9652 does this with OSS emulation, which causes me
headaches It's the biggest reason why I now use the on-board Via sound
chip for OSS and don't even set up OSS for the RME anymore.

In my case, with 3 ADAT outputs, if the RME sends 2 channels to all 26
outputs, I get CD audio going back to Pro Tools and over to GigaStudio
when I don't need it. Sometimes I'm routing Pro Tools audio through the
HDSP to a D/A, and at the same time streaming Linux audio elsewhere. I
don't want it all getting mixed together in strange ways. ;-)

That said, if there was a standard, and if that standard was followed,
and if it was clearly communicated how to change the operation on my
machine away from the standard due to my hook up needs, then I wouldn't
have a problem with what ever the standard was.
