It works reliably in Mandrake 9.0. No installation of alsa from sources was necessary (unlike older Red Hat distros). The example line from alsa docs "options isapnp isapnp_reserve_irq=9,10,11,12,13" was sufficient. In Mandrake 9.0, my GUS PnP uses IRQ 5.
In the brand new Mandrake 9.2, GUS uses IRQ 12. This renders my PS/2 mouse quite dead, as it needs IRQ 12, too. The above line isapnp_reserve_irq does not work. GUS sits stubbornly on IRQ 12.
I have both Mandrake 9.0 and 9.2 on my disk. 9.0 works fine (sound and mouse), 9.2 does not. So the IRQ is not dictated by the soundcard.
How can I force GUS to use IRQ 5?
