Hi all, I want to run VoIP with kphone on my good old dell latitude laptop (366Mhz Pentium II). The integrated sound device neomagic 256av is supported by alsa in full duplex mode :)
As kphone requires oss-like devices I use snd-pcm-oss and snd-mixer-oss, but the sound is ragged and has lots of bad sounds in between. I thought the device is bad and went out and bought a plantronics USB headset (DSP400), works great with snd-usb-audio, but I have the same problem in full duplex oss mode :-( If I attach the USB headset to my athlon desktop machine, full duplex works great with oss emulation (perfect quality), which made me think, it's simply a performance problem. I feel like the sound on my laptop got a little better, when using the preallocate_dma=1 parameter to snd-pcm, but I cant say for shure. Is there anything else i can try to get it working with either devices? How could I use the alsa-oss libs to make kphone use alsa? Any help is greatly appreciated :-) I am using pentium2-optimized Gentoo Linux 1.4 on Linux eof 2.4.20-gentoo-r5 #1 Fri May 30 14:21:09 CEST 2003 i686 Mobile Pentium II GenuineIntel GNU/Linux Alsa-Version: 0.9.4 THANKS. ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email sponsored by: Free pre-built ASP.NET sites including Data Reports, E-commerce, Portals, and Forums are available now.
