I am attempting to install ALSA and in preparation
have compiled a custom kernel. I'm using Redhat 8
system, kernel 2.4.20-18.8, and have an integrated
Sound Blaster card with Ensoniq 1371 chip set.

It is my understanding that in the sound section of
the kernel configuration I should select only
soundcore and my specific card. In my case I set
soundcore and es1371 to 'M' - all other modules are
unselected.

When I run 'make modules_install' I get an Unresolved
symbols in /lib/modules/..../sound/es1371.o

A check of the above directory indicates that the
es1371.o file does in fact exists.

The new kernel boots but running sndconfig also fails
to locate es1371.0

At this point I have two questions.
1) Is this the correct kernel configuration?
2) If 1 is yes why is es1371.o not being found?

Thanks
Steven Jones
