Hello Nathan, I have also expieriencing problems with alsa.
I was not or better I only hear bass intensive sound when I start alsasound. It seems to me that the settings of alsamixer are not recognized. I helped myself to start kmix (kde2) and then the soundsetting are restored. Then I tried to store these settings with alsactl store and rebooted the system in order to test if the setting are permanent. But no luck. Alsa start everytime with no sound at console and i have to restore the settings by kmix. It's quiet uncomfortable, but this works. So if a developer reads this, please let us know, what we make perhaps wrong or even tell us to solve our problems. So I want to thank you for reading this mail and for the hopefully many answers.
