Not necessarily as much as it sounds like. For example, your effectiveness in a given combat could be determined by how much of a limited resource you choose to invest in said combat, the choice being made before the identity of the monster is determined. The existing randomness in monster encounters may be harvestable in combination with a medium-length-term, gambity resource-management game to create something interesting and worth playing, while minimizing the frequency of diceserver reqeusts.
