The route over the sierras gives them back 20-30% of charge lost climbing the mountains.   They are used base to base for recharging with special location chargers.   They do the route as fast as a regular diesel including charging because of the type of routes they are used for.

No. They do a charge. I think they can use superchargers, but (I think) there is an even higher capacity charger specific to the Tesla Semi.

I presume they do a battery swap rather than a charge?

I just read a review of the Tesla Semi the other day. It was
mainly by Pepsico execs and actual semi drivers. From the review,
the drivers absolutely love them. The huge torque makes
mountain/hill climbing almost effortless, and the lack of noise
and stink is a major plus. Of the drivers who were interviewed,
they all said they never wanted to go back to diesel.
Pepsico has something like 50 deployed with (some number of)
million miles driven, and they said they wanted to get 50 more.

How is the Tesla Semi doing?  Unlike the Robovan, it already
        exists, doesn’t it?

I remember a review early on that said the designers must have
never talked to an actual semi driver.  But maybe the intent
is to have them be driverless.

Robovan seems like a better idea to me than the stupid
Cybertruck.  As far as the taxi, it seems to me Waymo has been
walking the walk while Tesla talks the talk. Millions of miles
of experience on the road probably count for more than glitzy
demos and hype.  But honestly the Chinese will probably beat
them all at the driverless taxi game.

Who among us thinks that's a good idea?
