For that to work well, you probably need (a) clear LOS (b) no foliage (c) no
multipath (d) mid or high band freq and (e) CPE at various heights (like
downtown office building) so you can use 3D beamforming. I’m not saying it
won’t work, but you won’t get anything near 64x capacity increase. I think I
was reading numbers like 5x.

My gut tells me you can’t beamsteer with that precision at sub 1 GHz
frequencies. But nobody said all 64 elements are in the same band either.

64x64 massive MIMO (like Cambium Medusa's 14x14) in each 120 degree sector.

That must mean something different than I was thinking. Like 64 time slices
for different traffic, or dividing the 360 degrees into 64 antenna beams.

Sprint\T-Mo has done 64x64.

I still can’t wrap my head around how they get ∞x∞ MIMO and 1.21 gigawattsbits
from 5 MHz of spectrum. I understand MU-MIMO and beamsteering and all that,
but when they start tossing around stuff like 8x8 MIMO I don’t see how you get
that many orthogonal signals on the same frequency.

But for maximum spectral efficiency, I assume they use more than 1
polarization, whether V&H or +45 & -45.

I have a passive antenna experiment in the works. Rather than guess at the
right slant, I think I will try V pol initially.

When GSM began they started using vertical polarization. But as the need for
capacity arose antennas changed to slant 45 X polarization.
