I've generally gone to at least the first major version number, as the increment in major version has indicated some serious design change. So taking your example, I would have gone from 13.x, to the first 14.x, then to the first 15.x, then the first 16.x.

I tested with an SM that was on version 13 and I went straight to version 16 and it was down for 15 minutes before it decided to link back up to the AP again. Is this normal, or was this SM just a fluke.  I almost thought I had bricked it, but suddenly it linked back up.
