https://www.fcc.gov/media/cable-carriage-broadcast-stations I didn’t realize local stations had to choose every 3 years between must-carry and retransmission-consent status. If they assert their must-carry rights, they cannot demand compensation. Another factor I guess is that the retransmission agreements for networks are with the local affiliates, except for network owned local stations. Oh, and they typically recover those payments by adding broadcast retransmission fees to your bill. So don’t cry for the cable company. Unless you really believe they are fighting on your behalf to keep your broadcast retransmission fees low.
