Regarding TSM server on Centos, or other unsupported platforms --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For a backup installation you need: - hardware for a small fortune - software licenses for a big fortune - Installation and configuration work - a lot of hours - Education which costs money The goal with the project is to be able to get the data back if it is lost. It is essential that you have support when you can't get the data back because of technical (or human) problems. The cost of a RedHat license is a very, very small fraction of the overall cost of the project. You can perhaps save 1% of the project cost by using a "free" operating system. The downside is that you are on your own when "the sh*t hits the fan". I personally think it is very well spent money to buy a RedHat license for the TSM server. If you are doing lab/test/training then Centos works fine, but a production environment should have a supported platform.
