The big mistake in the posting was to assume that Sun should be in this market. Sun has no experience in the "consumer" market and as far as I know, it has never tried to field a "consumer" product. Anyone here is free to go into business selling ready-made NAS servers based on OpenSolaris. Except for Adaptec SnapServer (which is pricey), almost all of the competition for small NAS servers is based on a special version of Microsoft Windows targeted for NAS service and which only offers CIFS.
