Background:
When using the «Browse Files» tool, if we try to open a file which XXE
by default cannot open, we are presented with a dialog box which gives
us some options for specifying the application that should open the
file.
In our case, we wanted to define a helper app for PDF files.
First:
Since we use MacOS, we selected Preview.app as the helper.
However, while this subsequently worked, it had to issues that
nevertheless made it NOT work: When opening PDF files, firstly, if an
instance of Preview.app was already running, a second instance of the
same app would be opened. (Second or more instance of the same app is
generally not something we are used to on Mac, so this was very
unhandly.) But even more seriously, we was told that the app did not
have permission to open that file - which was basically an even stranger
message, and at any rate a show stopper.
Second:
We of course wanted to remove Preview.app as helper app, and perhaps try
some of the other options that the dialog box described under
«Background» above offers.
However, how do we get back that dialog box?
Or to ask differently, how can we re-edit the helper app for PDF files
that are opened via the «Browse files» tools?
PS: We also tried editing the helper app for PDF inside the Settings of
XXE, but that did not affect the Browser Files tool.
