Tracking changes the way I'm used to keeps on getting better and better!
thanks to excellent support, I now know how to:

·flag new/deleted content in the output .pdf, using a .ditaval file

·highlight new/deleted content while writing in XXE, using a Conditional
Processing Profile

So, since I naturally and always want more … I have to ask whether
there's some deft way of combining the two (input-time/output-time
highlighting) with either one of the methods :-} Just out of curiosity,
you understand.

Sorry for my previous answer. After writing, I remembered your previous support
requests and finally understood the question contained in your last email.

Please forget my previous answer.

Highlighting new/deleted content while writing in XXE may be implemented by associating a
.profile file to the DITA map being edited. See "XMLmind XML Editor - Easy
Profiling", http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/profiling/index.html

I assume that you have done this.

A .profile file when associated to a DITA map, automatically creates a number of DITAVAL
files (one per profile) allowing to *exclude* some contents from the PDF file generated
using "Map|Bookmap -> Convert Document".

Currently, these automatic DITAVAL files do not support *flagging* some
contents in the generated PDF file. They only support excluding some contents.

This is clearly a limitation which could be removed in the future. Therefore
you are 100% right in asking the above question. Thank you for asking it!

This limitation is removed in XXE v6.6 (to be released in at most a couple of months).

Excerpts from the Change history of XXE v6.6:

---
It is now possible to associate a .profiles file to a DITA document in order to flag contents in the deliverables (HTML, PDF, RTF, etc). In previous versions of the "Easy Profiling" add-on, it was only possible to exclude contents from the deliverables.

In order to do that, when a .profiles file is opened in XXE, suffice to give distinctive styles to the values of a profiling attribute and then check the "Flag" checkbox found below the entry corresponding to this profiling attribute in a profile. (By default, it's "Include elements having these attributes" which is checked.)
