Hi all, I have tried uplatex + dvipdfmx + babel in Japanese and it works well. The only drawbacks are:
- memoir does not work in uplatex. book.cls works but gives unexpected results - I found that "ujbook.cls" is the solution. - uplatex works with dvipdfmx - so I need to found out how I can include PDF figures. All my figures are in PDF :-(( Anyway, I will find a solution. So, the conclusion is the following: with the "standard" documentclasses it will be difficult to implement Japanese because things like chaptername, partname, etc need to be redefined as "第1章" etc. Indeed, the standard classes for ctex and uptex take care of these things. In memoir it is possible to emulate the behavior, but not from polyglossia or babel - changes to the actual class files are needed.
