It's not for maps but for sound samples !! Sure it is overkill for maps,
but what about sound samples. Of course, we can make 2 different data
package:
-wormux_data_GPL
-wormux_data_CC
But it's horrible !!
You are right, I meant data, not maps.
We surely don't have any lawyer here, but it's sort of making three packages :
-one for the program without data (depending on data, but updatable
independently)
-one dfsg-data (dfsg compliant in fact, because what can go into debian can go
anywhere),
-one non-free-data, or dubious licences ("douteuses", for frenchies).
This is weird, but would be a paradise for packagers and distro users.
All the data we want to use are "free" (as in freedom) but are not
equally licensed. Currently, we have only GPL data. But we should add
Creative Commons data, which is free data. But so, what is the license
of a package which include data under GPL and data under Creatives
Commons? This would be exactly the same problem if we want to mix GPL
data and BSD data.
As Olivier says, it seems not to be clear. In my mind, the best is to
have only GPL data, or Creatives Commons data.
So first solution:
- find a(many) sound maker(s) who make(s) GPL data only. YeKcim agrees
to play this role. Perhaps we can post message on forum to find somebody
else who is ready now and can help YeKcim.
- release all the current samples used in Wormux in CC. Then we can
easily add Creatives Commons samples.
Artefact, could you ask the debian devels about mixing licenses? Yes, I
know there will be a big troll :-)
Matt
That said, there are many other ways to get close to paradise, like fixing
real game specific issues (sliding over hot napalm is such an thrilling
perspective !)
Hurrah for wormux !
