GOP pickup of about three in the Senate. People are willing to take a flyer on crazy for a two-year House term, but the six-year term will give people pause.
The talking heads at MSNBC had me shaking my head in embarassment just now. They got all upset at Rand Paul winning in Ky., and focused on Sen.- elect Paul's distress at the deficit. The MSNBC fella was concerned that Paul would, as is his right as a Senator, filibuster the "routine" increase in the Debt Ceiling next year. Which would, he said, cause an immediate worldwide Depression (big D) with everything shutting down as the US defaulted. To which I say: a: bullshit. You (the MSNBC guy) said this has never happened in the past. So how can you be so sure this is what would occur? b: And personally I'd love to see a real filibuster. I suspect that if Paul threatened one, the other Senators would finally get off their polite BS and tell him to put up or shut up. I suspect Ron Paul could pull a Jimmy Stewart - probably only one of a dozen or so Sens. who could... Let me emphasize that I'm not certain whether or not this would be, as Martha Stewart would say, be "a good thing". But I'd love to see a real political knock-em battle. - oh, and Ron Paul has come out in favor of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Read_the_Bills_Act And that is something I do fully endorse. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "World News Now Discussion List" group.
