The release of 1.7.6 though is a delayed a little longer because of a grave bug when creating an MP game (talk to silene in #wesnoth-dev for more details, YogiHH is probably the one who should fix it...).
Since one week ago several strings were changed. The most prominent ones are probably a reformatting in the manpages (to unify things a little) as well as *many* updates and polishing for unit descriptions. Beside this several smaller things were updated/changed. So from now on you can start to really work on translations. You at least have four weeks before 1.8 goes final, it is likely that it will be a little more.
