Hi everybody!
We are getting closer to 1.6. That is in the original plans 1.6 was meant to be
out early in February, this won't happen. At the moment it looks more like "late
February or early March". There will probably not be a too long hard
stringfreeze, might even be only a little more than one week. The reason is
rather simple: even at the moment there are not really this many fixes and
changes happening.
In theory we were in a feature freeze since 1.5.7. In practice some more things
changed:
1) Some stuff had to be added to the manual about the new "login to server"
dialog when clicking on "multiplayer". Now you can login with your forum
accounts. Due to this change, a new screenshot (multiplayer-1.5.9.jpg) had to be
taken and the descriptions had to be changed. I just committed this update.
2) We will change the summary upload stuff to display a dialog before uploading
the first time. I just added the strings required for this some hours ago in a
bogus file (data/temp-file_send_data_strings.cfg). In this file are some "rough
sketches" of how those strings will be wired in once Sirp finds the time to do
it.
3) Several typo fixes, several of those were listed at
http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/SpellingMistakes .

Overall only 24 Strings were added or changed since the release of 1.5.8, which
really is not too bad IMO. I am confident that the number of string changes will
even go down further. So if you are not already doing so:
Work on trunk to get it translated so that 1.6 will be available in your
language.

I asked ESR to write some full fledged announcement as we had it for all the
other stable releases before. I expect it to be available (at least?) about two
weeks before the release, but you never know for sure. I will post a note once
it is ready including an explanation regarding how to work with it.

Now to the more fun stuff:
I will probably release 1.5.9 on Sunday. So please send the stuff you want in
this release in. I will announce the release as the first beta for 1.6 so I
expect it to gain a lot more attention from players than the "normal" dev
version releases.

On a site note:
Several Wesnoth devs will be meeting at FOSDEM next weekend in Brussels. You are
of course free to join us in discussions and chatting. For some infos, have a
look at http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Fosdem2009 .

Cheers,
Nils Kneuper aka Ivanovic
