I wish that statement were made before python 3.x was released.
Breaking everybody's code to change syntax without adding new real
features was not a good marketing move in my opinion.

I would have preferred the statement were a commitment not to break
backward compatibility in the future rather than a moratorium on
changes. There is nothing wrong with changes that enrich a language
(or any system) as long as they continue allow users to continue
capitalize and build on existing systems.
