This is great!
2 questions:

   - has this been tested with 2.6* (or 2.7 now)  tar / cross 2.5 - 2.6 use?
    (If tar is the only 2.6* problem, seems eventually we should just fix the
   2.6 tar module... )
   - what is the reason / purpose for the new extension - if I understand,
   it is JUST what already exists - *.tgz / *.tar.gz?
