In regards to things not making sense, and Opie's baseball fabrication. it seems these are common themes on the show. Malcolm pretending to get drunk so he'd be fired all to bring Aunt Bea back into action. and how about Andy and Ellie's fabrication of a burglar to boost Barney's morale.
