Dave, Don't know if this is a related issue to a similar one I have seen with both VNC & Hummingbird eXceed but assuming the vnc server is on a Sun or similar and your client is on a PC then the Sun may be using sun specific fonts not available on the PC and therefore when the server sends info on which kind of font to use then the PC cannot match it properly and gives you garbage.
