There is also an 8port switch unit that does this, but it uses proprietry software and so has limited client support (Win NT ?) - it's also expensive (around 8,000 UKpound IIRC). Possibly more useful, and easier to build I suspect, would be a video card (just a basic PCI video card with no frills) with on-board processor to do the VNC stuff. If the card used a basic and common video chip then this should avoid problems with drivers, and in theory the VNC processor should be able to read the video data directly from the on-board memory. The biggest issue of course is that many potential users may not be able (ie allowed for administrative rather than technical reasons) to change the video card in their server(s). Could the neccessary hardware hooks be derived from the VGA feature connector (that used to be) common on video cards ?
