I agree, and packaging VNC with other clients and servers will solve that
need adequately.

It's not a stupid request, but there are already tools that allow that,
namely PCAnywhere, Timbuktu, and BO2K.  However, there are few good
and fairly platform independent tools that allow you to have a roaming
desktop across campus or across the world.  Why recreate something that is
already there in lieu of improving both products to do what they already
do well.
