Make sure you are starting your window manager in the $HOME/.vnc/xstartup
file. Don't expect to see your primary desktop (display :0) using VNC.
VNC for UNIX works differently than WinVNC, in that it starts up its own X
server.
~/.vnc/xstartup is similar to ~/.xinitrc or ~/.Xclients (or whatever the
equivalent files are in Openwindows).
