Thanks for the help, guys. Have now finally got it to work.

I made the mistake of putting the AuthHosts value in
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORL\WinVNC3\Default] instead of where it should
be in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORL\WinVNC3]. Guess I shouldn't skim read
the documentation!!

Another thing <groans from the audience> is there a way to deploy WinVNC
remotely - is it merely a case of copying the files and the registry keys
(I'm hoping to configure all machines with same settings, including the
AuthHosts feature!)

with this configuration, my winvnc-servers display a confirmation dialog to
the user. important are the following keys:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORL\WinVNC3]
"AuthHosts"="-:?192.168:"
(e.g. if you local network is 192.168.xxx.xxx)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORL\WinVNC3\Default]
"QuerySetting"=dword:00000002
(that means that for all 192.168.xxx.xxx a confirmation dialog is displayed,
defined by the "AuthHosts"-Key)

I'm sorry my friend, you appear to be answering a question I did not ask. I
would like to know how to get the Authhosts registry key working to display
confirmation dialogs if you know how to do that?!? ;-)

What you actually want is to set AllowProperties and then to set the _local_
per-user properties for the Default user to the required settings, on each
machine. The Global per-user settings can be modified by the user in the
registry, therefore AllowProperties=0 makes no sense if you read them.

Cheers,
