Maybe it wouldn't work even if the VNC server uses port 80 for both http and rfb. It
would work through a firewall using port forwarding and/or masquerading. But a real
proxy server does only forward the http protocol on port 80. It should be possible to
use
something like httptunnel for that purpose.
