I forgot to add to my previous email that you could also be losing the charge on your battery on this older iPhone if it is not connected to a network because the iPhone will spend a whole bunch of energy trying to search for and connect to a network which drains the battery so if your iPhone is not currently connected to a network, you can reduce this drain by putting it on airplane mode when you are not using it to access the Internet I found that that really helped too when I didn't have it actually connected to a network once you have it connected to a network this problem will disappear

You could replace the battery and see if that helps. I did this for my iphone 8. I paid $50 to have it done, and I used that phone for my back-up phone as you are considering. I did this a little over a year ago, and the phone is still going strong. If you do not want to go that route, you could also just get an inexpensive wireless charging bank and use that to keep the phone's charge up. I found one at walmart for $12 and it works great and I can charge lotss of things on it.

Janet, the iPhone X if that is what you have (you say 10, but Apple called it iPhone X, is almost 9 years old and there simply is no way the battery is like new. Batteries degrade over time and hold less and less charge, but I would not even invest any money into such an old phone any more. I thought you said you had an iPhone 16 Pro as well? That is also the phone I have and it’s really all you need right now. I never kept any of my old phones in case I would break my current phone, I always sell them and if I really were to break my iPhone 16 Pro to the point where it’s not functional any more I would just get a new phone.

Hello Gera

No according to Apple, it is  not the battery.

More something else going on, like the hardware!  Isn’t this just lovely!

Apple claims the battery is still like new as when I first bought it.

So, I will need to get the phone 10 checked out before I get a second phone line!

So now, another mystery!  !

Oh my goodness, technology  can be a headache to deal with!

But, thank you for the words of encouragement! Smile!

Kindly,

Janet.

It's at 81», thus it's gone bad!, or about to, thus I'd strongly recommend you replace that battery! Good luck!

Gera

Hello Everyone,

I am wanting to use my old phone 10 as a second phone in case I was to accidentally break my iPhone 16 Pro, I would still have a phone to communicate with the outside world.

The problem is the phone doesn’t hold a charge, after I unplug the charger, the phone goes from 100 percent to 0 percent within an hour.

Does anyone have any idea is to why this is happening, and what can I do to find out the problem, before I call Apple to see what they might say?

I’ve checked the battery health and it is at 81 percent, and according to Apple that is  new as when I first bought it.

I’ve restarted the phone, but to no avail.

Thank you all in advance.

Kindly,

Janet.
