The original owner has to be the one asking that it be unlocked. But, that is extremely old and I'm not sure which iOS is the last one that will run on it.

My carrier is PureTalk, which runs on the AT&T network. I have the opportunity to buy an old iPhone 8 for my pre-teen son at a nicely low price. I called my carrier with the IMEI number and was told it’s a phone locked by AT&T, so the rep said it wouldn’t work. Does this mean that putting a PureTalk sim card in it just doesn’t’ work? Is there a way to get AT&T to unlock it since it’s a really old phone and I was not the original owner?
