For those looking for another reminder alternative, I find the Amazon Echo much easier than the iPhone Reminders app for this. All reminders set with it are clearly announced by the Echo where it was set and you can also set the skill so that you are notified of the reminder on your iDevice and also get a text message too if you turn this on.
