I haven't an answer about the smart device platforms but did want to
chime in regarding the statement that the app is not super accessible.
I respectfully disagree. I use it weekly and while it's not perfect it
is indeed quite usable when using VoiceOver on an iPhone.
Are there controls that need fixing? Absolutely there are. I.E. trying
to change temperatures for some of the preset cycles is not working well
with VoiceOver currently. But there are current tickets with Maytag's
department that handles concerns related to their app. Many of us have
made friends with them and whenever we call their techs are thorough in
their willingness to hear what the concern is, log it accurately and
escalate it accordingly, always with the proviso that they can't
guarantee when they'll be addressed which is fair as it isn't in their
control.
Having said all of that if one just wants to use any of the preset
cycles as they are or can get some temporary on sight sighted assistance
to go into the favorites area of the app to customize a favorite cycle
to one's specifications, once done cycles can be chosen and executed
within the app with no difficulty whatsoever. Further more the push
notifications for cycle completion are flawless. Sometimes the reporting
of time left in a cycle can be less than accurate I've seen it say one
minute left when there's a good ten minutes left but that could just be
how the machine and Maytag's web platform are communicating on the back
end and again isn't difficult to work around for me at least.
all this to simply give another perspective and to urge another look at
the main app for the appliances. Again it isn't perfect, very few things
are but most on screen elements are labeled and do speak and execute
properly without issue.
