Hello, Robert --

THANK YOU for the clue!!! I made a folder (under /home/bu4lu3si1 -- my
own home folder) called "debdnld" (for deb download!). Then I
downloaded and saved the file. I then opened Konsole and entered "cd
debdnld<Enter>" This, predictably and properly, modified my prompt.

I entered "sudo dpkg --install
virtualbox-3.0_3.0.8-53138_Ubuntu_jaunty_i386.deb<Enter>"

The system replied as follows --
dpkg: error processing {filename} (--install):
conflicting packages - not installing virtualbox-3.0
Errors were encountered while processing:
{filename}
{prompt}:

Obviously, I have assumed that the "/path/to/package_name.deb" of your
instructions has to do with the package that has just been downloaded
(as opposed to the package which is being replaced).

However, I am unable to understand the "Conflicting packages" diagnostic.
Perhaps it sees VirtualBox OSE version 2.1.4 as being in conflict, rather
than as ready to be replaced. If that is the case, do you have any idea
of how I can preserve my existing virtual machine (Windows XP Pro) and
its primary application -- Libronix, with MASSIVE data files!!!? If this
is NOT my real problem, can you suggest ways in which I can determine
what "conflict" is being detected?

THANK YOU for your generous assistance!!!!!
