So I moved on to
Catalina:J2EEApplication=none,J2EEServer=none,j2eeType=WebModule,name=//localhost/test
and BINGIE, *that* had "start" and "stop" operations!
So I tried them, while monitoring from Manager, and they worked.
And they also worked for starting and stopping the Manager.
But then something happened to put me back to square one: being able to
start and stop the bean doesn't do any good by itself, because the
Tomcat server is restarted regularly. I believe that particular
installation shuts down and restarts nightly for reasons I'd rather not
go into.
So I tried stopping the bean, changing the remote address valve, and
restarting the bean. No effect: I used my Chromebook, online through my
cell phone's hotspot, and it couldn't get in.
Either I'm stopping and restarting the wrong bean, or stopping and
restarting the bean doesn't reload the context.xml.
I'll try other beans, but if anybody can suggest a different bean to
try, please do.
Exactly which file did you change?
