Whether or not one "likes" jQuery or not isn't the point. Tapestry is
built with prototype, and it works. That's the point. Were it built with
jQuery, I would have raised the same question if the suggestion of
switching to prototype had been brought up. It's not my preference
that's behind my resistance, it's the simple pragmatism of "if it ain't
broke don't fix it." On the other hand, the prospect of a pluggable JS
framework is interesting and I'm all for that. That is a feature; an
improvement. A wholesale switch from prototype to jQuery just doesn't
seem like time well-spent.

This will be a good step, like it or not jQuery is one of the most popular js
library out there, in fact I have seen jobs asking for jQuery experience, I
have used jQuery with T5 extensively, and the switch from Prototype to
jQuery will be a dream come true:), any time table the jQuery enabled
branch goes public? I'd like to start my next t5 project with that build.

There's been a lot of discussion on blogs lately about the merits of
Prototype vs. jQuery.

I've added an issue to JIRA to discuss this.
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TAP5-486
Basically, a rewrite of tapestry.js from Prototype to jQuery should
insulate most users from the changes. Advanced users who have written
their own javascript components may need to add an annotation or a
configuration value for compatiblity after upgrading.
I may start experimenting with this in a branch.
I've noticed that many of the more interesting public sites using
Tapestry are already using jQuery as well ... thus this shift
represents addresing the core concern of performance (having to
download and use just one JavaScript library, not two).
