As I said, if you don't have an Android phone,
I very much doubt if you could have helped me.
My problem is that I was unable to sync my Android phone
to my Google account.

As it happens I have solved the problem,
which seemed to involve my phone being in an odd state.
After draining the battery,
removing and re-installing SD card and SIM card,
re-charging the battery,
and setting up a new Google account,
everything worked on re-booting the phone, as it says on the box.

I'm pretty sure the problem lay in the phone,
as some of the menus have changed.
