Big question:
If I re-install and stick with btrfs, is there a way to turn off the
compression globally during the install process?
It looks like if you manually create the btrfs filesystem yourself
during the install, it doesn't get the compression flags added, so
it's already uncompressed. (I just tested this.) You can use the
"compsize" program to check if files are compressed. "compsize -x /"
will check the entire root filesystem.
Thank-you, Samuel.
You're right. compsize shows no compression.
I still should re-install. That way, I'll be sure about /home being
where it should be. Unfortunately, I can't get a POST screen, and so
can't get into BIOS to tell it to boot from the live stick. I've
already sent a message to the computer shop I bought the desktop from.
I don't really expect to see or hear anything back from them until next
week.
Let's please put this thread aside until I get the POST / BIOS problem
solved.
