On Windows machines, if fans are frozen and not cooling properly, you turn your back to them for a bit, then turn back, touch the keyboard, and they freeze up. Gives the user a complex thinking they did something to the computer. AMD's notoriously run hot. I adobe "xsensors" for checking heat on Linux machines. Is your case closed when this happens?
