Hi!
Was looking for something safe and reliable, 8 or 16 ports,
managed. I
don't really need PoE. I've read really bad review on Netgear on
Amazon.
I am also looking for 'average' pricing, not the cheapest and not the
most expensive ones. Also don't want to have to register online
for some
"features" to work.
I use Ubiquiti in my home. For a router I use a Unifi Security Gateway
(USG)[1] but I'd like to upgrade to the Dream Machine Pro SE when
available. Then for the switch a non-PoE 24 port rack mount managed
switch with two UAP-AC Lites (Wifi 5, dual band)[2]. If I were to
setup a brand new system I would use the new WiFi 6 version[3].
Pretty happy with it overall. I run the Unifi controller software on a
CentOS Steam box in the closet since I package it for the RPM Fusion
non-free repository, however, when I upgrade the whole Dream Machine
series[4] have it built in.
I use Ubiquiti EdgeSwitches for my home LAN: one 18X and several 10X
units. They are stable and silent. I configure them using the switch's
built-in Web GUI. I use their VLAN, SFP (fiber optic), and STP features.
I think they're a very good value for the money. Be advised that tech
support is provided via online Web forums; you're more likely to be
helped by fellow customers than by a Ubiquiti employee.
