Either consider yourself to be an expert on this topic, or you would need to consult an expert first. What about fixation, finalization and multi-session recording? What about TAO/DAO/SAO modes? What about writing speed, media detection and power calibration? Everything done automatically by the hardware, possibly reset to defaults whenever the device driver opens the device for writing?
