Ok. I haven't seen this behaviour and I haven't checked the code for the tuntap driver. As long as you specify one to start with you can change it later? So the idea would be to have dhcp look at the mac and if it was the startup mac (say: fe:fd:00:00:00:00) then issue a mac from a pool that dhcp maintains and change it.
