Because there may be applications with more than one word in their title. "Google Chrome", "Additional Drivers", "AisleRiot Solitaire", "CompizConfig Settings Manager" are some examples of such applications I have on my computer.
Conversely, tell me where it is difficult in opening an Application normally, then hitting Ctrl+O and simply browsing to the file?
