Get this folks.  I had this exact same issue with 10.04 and just "lived
with it" for 2 years.  The only difference was that everything would
freeze for about 5 seconds then the screen turned a bunch of colors and
then go black.  If music was playing it would skip like a record.  Tried
to fix it but never got anywhere.  Recently, the time (and money) came
to upgrade my system.

I replaced the mobo and cpu and mem and fresh install of 12.04.  Still
got the freeze.  I thought to myself, "Must be a piece of hardware from
my old system."  Replaced everyting piece by piece and still got
freezes.  So today I have an i5 3570K | Asus P8z77 | 8 gig Corsair xms3
| no graphics card | 60 GB SSD | (2) 120 GB HDD | 700 wat PSU and am at
my wits end about this.

Please fix this.  I am die-hard Ubuntu.
