Get this folks. I had this exact same issue with 10.04 and just "lived with it" for 2 years. The only difference was that everything would freeze for about 5 seconds then the screen turned a bunch of colors and then go black. If music was playing it would skip like a record. Tried to fix it but never got anywhere. Recently, the time (and money) came to upgrade my system.
I replaced the mobo and cpu and mem and fresh install of 12.04. Still got the freeze. I thought to myself, "Must be a piece of hardware from my old system." Replaced everyting piece by piece and still got freezes. So today I have an i5 3570K | Asus P8z77 | 8 gig Corsair xms3 | no graphics card | 60 GB SSD | (2) 120 GB HDD | 700 wat PSU and am at my wits end about this. Please fix this. I am die-hard Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
