I wanted to cycle back to this because I wanted to make sure people
know they're being heard. Slack is incredibly expensive, and if you
don't pay for it, you don't have long term archives. As such, it's a
very poor practical solution for open source projects, in addition to
the proprietary nature of it that makes it a poor ethical choice.

As for alternate tooling, we don't have the resources right now to
host anything ourselves.
