We have no background information to determine what exactly is the
issue... this is, it appears, a piece of forum software which uses
MySQL/PHP but doesn't appear to have an automated browser-driven
upgrade routine... I would, personally, avoid any piece of software
that starts off its upgrade instructions with "replace these files"...
it is a minefield, and you only have to make one mistake and the whole
thing is knackered.

Why, exactly, did you choose this piece of software that seems to have
some way to go before one could say it was "user-friendly" at all?

I know phpBB etc. are not perfect, but at least they do endeavour to
help the user keep up-to-date.

And in that regard, is there any pressing reason you NEED to upgrade?
 If not, why not just install from scratch and stick with the current
version?
